While SAD secretary D S Cheema confirmed that the SGPC did send an invitation to the CM on almost the same day it extended an invitation to the PM, sources close to the CM maintained no such invitation had come to Amarinder till Monday. Cheema said he had a photocopy of the invitation, sent on behalf of SGPC acting president Alwinder Singh Pakhoke.
The CM''s supporters believe it had been a "crude attempt" of the SGPC and SAD president Parkash Singh Badal to keep Amarinder on the sidelines and not let him take any credit for the historic event, which had been primarily planned and carried forth by the SGPC.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former PMs Atal Bihari Vajpayee, I K Gujral and Chandra Shekhar and the Dalai Lama are among prominent persons who have been invited to the mega event.
